steam engines andmachinery

A steam engine is an external combustion heat engine that makes use of the heat energy that exists in steam, converting it to mechanical work.
Steam engines were used as the prime mover in pumping stations, locomotives, steam ships, traction engines, steam lorries and other road vehicles. They were essential to the Industrial Revolution and saw widespread commercial use driving machinery in factories and mills, although most have since been superseded by internal combustion engines and electric motors.

A steam engine requires a boiler to heat water into steam. The expansion of steam exerts force upon a piston or turbine blade, whose motion can be harnessed for the work of turning wheels or driving other machinery.
Below are some pictures of machinery and steam engines, pips etc..

jekyl and hyde - Afro Samurai

When Jared was talking to our group earlier on in the week he made a suggestion that maybe the Hyde character could be massive suit with another character inside controlling the beast, and when he takes off the suit he is unaware of what has gone on around him.

I had recently bought Afro Samurai which aint got any think to do with our project ( the style is off the wall and brilliant animation ) any way there is a part at the end where Afro has to fight a teddy, but with there is a cyborg inside the suit. He revels himself to Afro as hte head opens up.

Here are some sreen shots

Steam Punk

Steampunk is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction which came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often set in Victorian era England.

Philip Pullman's Dark Materials trilogy also includes steampunk settings, most notably Lyra's world in The Golden Compass and The Amber Spyglass.

Snow Light

Here is the image that I have composited in Photoshop, to allow there to be light and snow falling in the same picture so you can get the idea of what things could look like.

Enjoy!

All Snowed under

Here is the remake of the snow animation but with smaller particle size and less bounce (",)

This works alot better now that I have changed a few options in the settings.

let it snow, let it snow ,let it snow

Take from Chris idea with the streetlight in the snow, I thought it would be great to have some particles as snow falling down to give the impression of it snowing. The snow texture that is on the ground is “spot on” and works really well in the scene.

I ran into some trouble when sorting out the render setting, because the particles only show up when you "Hardware" render them, the lights and some of the texture will not show up when rendering his way. My plan was to render the scene in "hardware" then render the lights and textures in "Software" so the I could composite it together so it would have the snow and lighting

There are still things that I need to fix with the snow, like reducing the particle size smaller and having it bounce less.

Aint got the foggiest

Here I was trying to test out the best way to get like a fog effect within our scene so it would give and eerie feeling to the environment. The best way that which was i was able to achieve this, was to have an Environmental fog in the scene which emits a mist/fog in the whole scene.

This method is very flexible and can easily adapt to how you would like it to be. Every thing to the colour, density to the way it interacts in the scene is changeable. Here are the screens shots that I managed to achieve with just a couple of boxes as buildings.

Above in the picture there is a light gray fog that is even thoughout the picutere.

Below is have created the fog darker from right to left as if the fog is rolling in. Here I have just messed about with changing the colour to a buleish colour, but kinda give a look as if its under water!

I played around with more of the setting below and i managed to have the fog higher up and you can clearly see a cut off where the fog starts.

Here i made a dirty colour for the fog, with a blue haze ontop, to give two layers as there is a gas that is lighter then the fog which sits ontop.

Here I just made a spot light in the middle to see how light would come out across in the fog.
